Political robocalls under fire in other states

State and federal enforcement agencies are receiving more complaints than ever about robocalls, which are commonly used in political campaigns as well as more shady business operations.
In turn, that is leading to action by legislatures around the country, according to reporting by PEW's Stateline. No part of that trend, however, can be found in Louisiana — yet.

Vermilion Parish Police Jury argues over new parish trash pickup

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury committee meeting got heated when a police juror argued that the new trash pickup system is not doing his district any good.
Abbeville Police Juror Ronald Darby argued that he wants the police jury to go back to the old way of picking up trash along the side of the road. The old way had trucks in his district every two weeks.
The new system has trucks in his district every three weeks.

Kaplan mourns loss of councilman

The City of Kaplan is mourning the loss of one of their City Councilmen, Richard LeBlanc, 71.
He passed away Thursday, August 2, after a brief illness.
LeBlanc, served as the District C Kaplan City Councilman. He had been sworn in last month, July 1, to begin serving his second term.
He served his first term under former Mayor Kirk Champagne, then served under the current mayor, Mike Kloesel, for one month.
