During the month of April, 2018 the following defendants were convicted or pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 15th Judicial District Court, Parishes of Lafayette, Acadia and Vermilion:
VERMILION PARISH
The Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force took part in the National Drug Take Back day last Saturday in Abbeville and Kaplan.
The Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, recently took part in the National Drug Take Back day.
This effort is in conjunction with the DEA and focuses on collecting unused medications which fall into the scheduled drug category under Louisiana law.
Agents collected 117 pounds of unused drugs, making this the most successful Take Back initiative to date.
Gwen Broussard is now part of the 4-H Hall of Fame.

MANSURA — Twelve new members of the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame were recognized on April 28 for their years of dedication to youth in the state 4-H program.
Mark Tassin, LSU AgCenter associate vice president and 4-H program leader, said 4-H is able to carry out its mission because of the efforts of parents, volunteers and LSU AgCenter employees. As a result, tens of thousands of youths have been affected. “We probably could be recognizing thousands of people,” he said.
So far, the Hall of Fame includes 220 people since it was started in 2008, Tassin said.
Councilman Brady Broussard Jr. said some constituents recently brought up issues with crosswalks in the downtown area.
There is plenty of foot traffic that shares the downtown Abbeville area with drivers.
Councilman Brady Broussard Jr., whose district C incudes the area, said some who walk in downtown have expressed concerns about pedestrian safety.
“I have heard concerns from downtown residents about the danger of crossing downtown streets,” Broussard said.
Lt. Gov. Nungesser touts tourism while speaking to Chamber in Abbeville
Billy Nungesser knows how much Louisiana has to offer.
As Lieutenant Governor, Nungesser works every day to bring that message to not only the rest of the country, but to the entire world.
Nungesser made a stop Thursday afternoon in Vermilion Parish, a place he said has a tremendous amount to offer to the tourism industry. Nungesser spoke to members of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and local officials during the Chamber’s general membership meeting at the American Legion Hall in Abbeville.
