Kaplan Council awards walking trail project

KAPLAN — The construction of the walking trail was given the approval to begin during the regular Kaplan city council meeting last Tuesday.
City engineer Brett Bayard informed the council that six contractors were sent bids requesting quotes for the bid in February. However, no quotes were submitted.
While trying to continue to reach out to get bids, they were contacted by Hardee Lumber Company of Kaplan who expressed interest in bidding. Their bid price came it at $138,374, approximately $2,000 more than the original budget.
They were awarded the contract.

Local business partnering with shelter to create dog walking program

Thibodeaux’s Town & Country is supporting a dog walking program with Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control.
It’s the idea VPRAC, with the approval of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury, to establish a dog walking program. The facility is introducing this program in order to get the dogs more human companionship and exercise. Interaction between people and pets has many mutual benefits.

At one time, this trash was along the side of the road in trash bags. Scavengers got a whole of it, and spread it all over.

Scavengers tear up trash bags, spread paper on street

On West Jane Street, located just north of Abbeville, there was a 25 yard stretch of trash that should not be there, according to Police Jury Wayne Touchet.
Touchet discovered the mess Tuesday afternoon. He got down and went through the trash and saw addresses and names of who the trash belonged to.
However, he was not 100 percent sure that the person to whom the stuff belonged is the same person who put the trash there. He was not sure if the person the stuff belongs to, also owns the house across the street where the trash was found.

Lauren Tisdale is an Abbeville native, currently residing in New Iberia.
She is a wife and a full-time working mom. In her spare time, she enjoys writing books. She previously published her first book, Circle of Secrets, with Sweet Cravings Publishing, but shares that she decided to self publish just recently.
