Wins by Broussard, White mean two women will serve on Abbeville City Council together for first time

Neither Terry Broussard nor Roslyn White set out to make history when each decided to run for a seat on the Abbeville City Council.
They each wanted to work hard for the people of the place they call home.
Sometimes making history is simply a happy coincidence.

Piazza re-elected as Abbeville Mayor; Spearmen will be new Chief of Police; White, Broussard elected to Abbeville City Council

There will be some new faces serving in Vermilion Parish.
Polls closed last night, with voters in Abbeville and Kaplan making their choices clear.
Voters in Abbeville overwhelmingly re-elected Mayor Mark Piazza to another term. He has served as mayor since 2002. He defeated Clay Thompson 1,635 votes (81 percent) to 381 (19 percent).

SEN. JONATHAN “JP” PERRY APPOINTED TO GOVERNOR’S DWI TASK FORCE

District 26 State Senator Jonathan “JP” Perry (R-Kaplan) will represent the Louisiana State Senate on the Governor’s Task Force on DWI.
Governor Edwards recently recreated the task force first established in 2012 to address the high incidence of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs and to help identify and implement effective DWI countermeasures.

Dr. Jack Gupta honored as Kaplan ‘Citizen of the Year’

KAPLAN — Kaplan Area Chamber members honored Dr. Jack Gupta as the ‘Citizen of the Year’, Acadiana Ford as the ‘Business of the Year’ and Assistant Police Chief as ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ at their annual banquet held at the American Legion earlier this month.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Gupta thanked the people of Kaplan for accepting him and his family into the community.
“I am proud to be part of this community,” he said. “I have met many good friends here. You can also thank my wife for making us move from New York to Kaplan.
