Early voting for March 24 elections begins Saturday

What has been a long champaign road for candidates around Vermilion Parish is winding down as the March 24 elections are three weeks away.
Voters in the parish will have an opportunity to get out and support their respective candidates before that date.
Early voting will begin this Saturday, March 10. It will conclude on Saturday, March 17. It will be open each day, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Sunday, March 11. Voters can cast ballots at Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand’s Office on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville.

Gueydan Duck Festival Association wins awards

The Gueydan Duck Festival Association recently attended the Louisiana Fairs and Festivals Convention in Baton Rouge. The organization was the recipient of several awards for District 3 Division 1. Winning Best Cap, Best Brochure, Hall of Fame recipient; Ronnie Lougon and Volunteer of The Year; Judy LeBlanc. Alana Duhon

Lafayette General Foundation creates Alana Duhon Memorial Fund

On Feb. 4, 2018, a member of the Lafayette General Health (LGH) family incurred a tragic loss. Stacy Duhon, Clinical Implementation Specialist, lost her daughter, Alana Duhon, in a car accident. To support Duhon in her time of need, Lafayette General Foundation (LGF) established the Alana Duhon Memorial Fund.
Alana was a sophomore at North Vermilion High School where she was a member of the Lady Patriot Softball team and an active member of the 4-H Club.

Alleged Gremlin Gang member charged with 1 count of murder

A second man associated with the Gremlin Gang of Vermilion Parish is charged with four murder counts in connection with a Christmas party shooting in Eunice.
Darron Carter, 20, of the Lafayette area, was arrested Tuesday in Lafayette, and is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Also charged in the shooting is Rontreal J. Prejean (A.K.A. “D-Jack”), 18, of the 400 block of Madison Street in Lafayette.
