Maurice Aldermen approve adjustment to water, sewer fees

MAURICE — Customers on the Village of Maurice’s water and sewer systems will see slight increases on their bills beginning in April.
The Village of Maurice Board of Aldermen voted 3-0 during its regular monthly meeting last Wednesday to adjust the water user fees and the sewer user fees.
The board voted to amend the ordinances that cover the fees after holding a public hearing.
The adjustments will show up in April’s bill for March consumption. In 2019 and ‘20, the increases will be applied to February’s bill for January consumption.

False Alarm Problem

When an alarm goes off, Vermilion Parish volunteer firefighters rush. They leave their job, head to the fire station, get on a fire truck and rush to the fire.
When firefighters get to the scene, sometimes there are not always flames or smoke. Many times, they never arrive because when they are en route, they hear this. “False alarm. Turn around.”

Higgins: Oil, gas industry poised for comeback

President Donald Trump and conservatives in Congress are helping the oil and gas industry make a comeback with increased drilling opportunities and fewer burdensome regulations, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins said last week.
Higgins, R-Port Barre, spoke to the Atchafalaya Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
He represents Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Vermilion Parish, and took office in January 2017.
“The oil and gas industry is set for a renaissance in the Gulf of Mexico,” Higgins said.
