Scott Vallo announces candidacy for Vermilion Parish School Board

GUEYDAN - Long-time Gueydan resident will seek one of eight seats up for grabs in next November’s election.
Gueydan resident, Scott Vallo, community volunteer, former city council member, announced Monday his intention to land one of the eight Vermilion Parish School Board seats up in next November’s general election.
“I would like to take this time to announce my candidacy for District A School Board Member. The election will be held in late 2018 but I am announcing early so that I can begin reaching out to the people of District A.

Vermilion Parish School employees will not see rise in insurance premiums

While the cost of health insurance is rising six percent, Vermilion Parish employees and the school board are not going to see in increase in premiums.
The school board was informed of the news at Monday’s meeting. They did not have to take any action to offset the increase because the school board is already collecting enough to absorb the increase.
The school board voted 6-1 to approve the increase. Voting against it was Anthony Fontana and Luddy Herpin was absent from the meeting.

Municipal, Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force taking back unwanted prescription drugs In Abbeville, Kaplan

On Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 14th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Abbeville firemen, officers asking questions

The recent death of Lafayette Police Cpl. Michael Middlebrook has sparked questions that are beginning to be asked by Abbeville police officers and firemen.
On Oct. 1, Middlebrook was shot and killed in the line of duty. Middlebrook is the first Lafayette Police officer killed in the line of duty since the 1960s.
He was killed on Oct. 1 at Big Boy Discount Zone, a convenience store on Moss Street, when he responded to a call about a shooting. He is survived by his wife, a 3-year-old daughter and two step-daughters.
