Vermilion Catholic moves to No. 1 in power ratings

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles (7-1) leaped from No. 4 of last week to No. 1 this week in the latest Division IV power ratings.
The reason for the leap was because they played and beat Centerville, who had six wins, so the Eagles’ power rating went up.
Do not be surprised if VC falls to No. 2 or No. 3 next week because the Eagles are playing Covenant Christian, who only has two wins.
The Eagles overtook Opelousas Catholic (7-1) who dropped to No. 2. Ascension Catholic (8-0) is No. 3 and Southern Lab (4-3) is No. 4.
The top 16 make the Division IV playoffs.

VC keeps district game interesting until half time

At least this district game was exciting until half time.
A week ago, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles scored 35 points in the first quarter against Hanson.
On Friday, it took the Eagles two quarters to score 35 points en route to a 42-10 win over Highland Baptiste in front of a homecoming crowd.
VC’s offense seems to be clicking. They have scored 42 points twice and 50 points once in VC’s last three victories.

Kaplan ends four game losing streak

KAPLAN - The Kaplan Pirates ended a four-game losing in front of a homecoming crowd Friday.
The Pirates beat the St. Martinville Tigers 26-15 Friday in Ed Douglas Memorial Stadium.
The win improves Kaplan to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the district.
Kaplan head coach Stephen Lotief said it felt like eight years since the last time Kaplan won a game.
On Friday, his saw his squad play Kaplan football.
“We relaxed and played better,” said Lotief. “We won the line of scrimmage, and we played as good as we can play.”

Erath remains No. 38 in power ratings; Kaplan, Abbeville drop in ranking; VC Eagles stay at No. 3

A win did not do anything in helping the Erath Bobcats move up in the latest Class 3A power ratings.
A week ago the Bobcats were ranked No. 38 in the Class 3A Power ratings, according to the website, Louisianasportsline.com
The Bobcats improved to 3-3 on Friday with a win over the Kaplan Pirates. Despite the win, the Bobcats remained at No. 38 in power standings with four games remaining.
On the other hand, the Pirates were ranked No. 30 before playing Erath. With the loss, the Pirates fell 11 slots to No. 41.
