Wildcats trying to stay positive after three games

There is still plenty of football left to be played for the Abbeville Wildcats. That is the message Abbeville head coach Kevin Kern is telling his players after the third week.
The Wildcats, who stunned Church Point 7-6 in the parish jamboree, have not begun the 2019 season like Kern would have liked.
For starters, the Wildcats are 0-3. The most points they scored in a game was 14, and that was against the VC second and third-string players.
But what is killing the Wildcats on offense? Turnovers and penalties.

Kaplan quarterback Roman Bradley (4) and the Kaplan offense do nothing fancy. They keep the ball on the ground and eat up the clock.

VC QB Drew Lege has thrown for 932 yards and has completed almost 70 percent of his passes. He has completed 69 out of 105 passes and only thrown two interceptions.

Vermilion Catholic in search of its first win over Kaplan

In the last two meetings between the Vermilion Catholic Eagles and the Kaplan Pirates, one team combined to score 62 points and the other team only scored 28.
With its wide-open offense, one would think it would be the Eagles who scored the 62 points and Kaplan who scored 28. Think again.
In 2015, Kaplan cruised to a 32-15 win over VC. The next year in a rainstorm, Kaplan won 30-13.
Tonight in Kaplan, the Eagles (2-1) look to get their first win over the Pirates (2-1). Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.

Erath travels to North Vermilion for showdown

Tonight the Erath Bobcats (2-1) travel to North Vermilion to play the Class 4A Patriots (2-1) in a parish showdown.
Both teams are coming off wins and would love to get on an extended winning streak two weeks before district begins.
The Bobcats are seeking its second straight win over a Class 4A school. This past Friday EHS whipped Morgan City 35-7 and are now on a two-game winning streak. A win over NV would give them their third straight win.
A year ago the Bobcats were riding a three-game losing streak in search of their victory of the year.

Vermilion Catholic’s defense has been solid all year. Some of the players on defense are Jacob Noegel (35), Jude Roger (73), Paul Moresi IV (60), Colin Mier (56) and Kyle Romero (19). The Eagles will be on the road on Friday to battle Kaplan.
