Things are clicking at the right time for the Kaplan Pirates.
On Friday the Pirates advanced to the third round of the Class 3A playoffs by playing what head coach Stephen Lotief said was the Pirates’ best game of the season.
The Pirates cruised to a 36-6 victory over the Crowley Gents (8-4). They will play No. 6 Lake Charles College Prep Friday at home,
“This is the best game we played all year,” Lotief told his team after the game. “Our offense played well. Our defense played well, and our special teams played well.”

Tough second round draw: Crowley brings potent offense into Pirate Country

KAPLAN - The Crowley Gents are on a five-game winning streak. The Kaplan Pirates are on a six-game winning streak.
After tonight, one of those streaks is going to come to an end.
The Gents (8-3) travel to Kaplan to battle the Pirates (8-3)
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Kaplan head coach Stephen Lotief is worried about his opponent.
“We will have to play our best game of the season for us to have a chance,” said Lotief.
No. 14 Crowley whipped No. 19 Sophie B. Wright High School out of New Orleans, 26-6.

St. Frederick well aware of Vermilion Catholic

Vermilion Catholic has a special place in St. Frederick’s heart.
Back in 2013, in the Division IV state finals, VC met St. Frederick in the Superdome. When the game was over, the Eagles won their second state title and St. Frederick’s went home with their tail between their legs after being drummed 63-18.
That was five years ago and none of the current St. Frederick players were part of the team. But trust me, they are aware of the final score.

Four Vermilion Parish football teams reach playoffs

There are four teams who will continue to play high school football on Week 11.
Kaplan, Vermilion Catholic, Erath and Gueydan all landed in the LHSAA playoffs, which begins on Friday.
North Vermilion just missed making it by one number. The Patriots were No. 33 and the top 32 make the playoffs.
Three out of the four teams will have a home game in the first round.
In Class 3A, Vermilion Parish has two teams.
The 7-3 Kaplan Pirates are No. 3 and will entertain No. 30 Jennings (4-6).
