On Thursday at the Abbeville High Hall of Fame Banquet, one of the greatest athletes from Abbeville High will be honored by her peers.
The late René Giles Trahan will be inducted into the Abbeville High Hall of Fame. The ceremony is being held at Magdalen Place on Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
When she graduated in 1996, Trahan was not only great on the parish and state level, but she was great on the world level.
The Abbeville Wildcats picked a great time to play the their best game of the season.
The Wildcats, behind its veer offense, ran over the Patterson Lumberjacks, 41-19.
Abbeville improved to 3-4 on the year and is at home Friday against district rival North Vermilion for a homecoming battle.
“We played well all around,” said AHS head coach Kevin Kern. “This week I told the players to have to finish a game. We have to play a complete game. Tonight, we did that.”
The Wildcats set the tone early by jumping out to a 20-0 first quarter lead.
ERATH - All records are meant to fall.
On Thursday in Erath, a 33-year-old Erath school record fell.
When Erath junior quarterback Luke LeBlanc took to the field Thursday night against the North Vermilion Patriots, it was reported that he was 300-plus yards away from tying Nathan Granger’s single-season passing record. Granger’s single-season record was 1,433 yards set in 1985.
However, after going back and recalculating his throwing stats, it was determined LeBlanc was a lot closer to tying the record than first reported.
HOUMA - The Vermilion Catholic Eagles, a Class 1A team, upset the Class 3A E.D. White Catholic football team 27-20 on Friday night at Yockey Bernard Field at Harvey Peltier Memorial Stadium.
E.D. White fell to 3-3 overall and Vermilion Catholic of Abbeville improved to 6-0 on the season.
The Cardinals scored first after a bad snap on a punt gave E.D. White the ball on the Vermilion Catholic 9 and Michael Clement scored on an 8-yard run and the Cardinals led 7-0 early on.
