Gibson fans 13 in North Vermilion win over Cecilia

Kallie Gibson struck out 13 batters as the pitcher led the North Vermilion Lady Patriots past the Cecilia Lady Bulldogs 4-2 on Wednesday.
The game was moved to Abbeville’s Luquette Field because NV’s field was too wet.
Gibson surrendered four hits and two runs over seven innings while walking none.
Gibson had a cushion 4-0 lead after the first inning.
North Vermilion opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning thanks to two singles and a walk.

VC baseball nips North Vermilion

LEROY – In a game with all the makings of a classic, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles outdueled the North Vermilion Patriots, 4-3, on Monday night in a back-and-forth showdown that came down to the wire.
The Eagles wasted no time flexing their muscles, as Bryce Lege sent a home run to dead center in the top of the second, putting VC on the board first.  Lege used a new baseball bat he had just purchased the day of the NVHS game. His regular bat broke during practice the morning of the game.

VC Eagles knocked out of basketball playoffs

On Tuesday, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles were eliminated from the Division IV Select Basketball Playoffs after blowing a 23-point lead late in the third period.
The Eagles led 36-13 with 3:39 to play in the third period but lost 57-48 to Cedar Creek.
Cedar Creek outscored the Eagles 44-12 over 11 minutes.
It is the second straight year VC has fallen in the second round. The last time VC reached the third round in the basketball playoffs was in 1999, when it fell to Lake Charles Hamilton.

Historic season comes to end for North Vermilion Lady Patriots

LEROY—On Thursday, the No. 2 North Vermilion Lady Patriots ended their historic season by falling to No. 7 Albany, 44-37, in Leroy.
It was historic because it was the first time the Lady Patriots had won a record 27 games in a season and an outright Class 4A district title.
“It was a historic season for North Vermilion,” said NV girls coach Jack LeBlanc. “We achieved a record number of wins, claimed a district title, and defeated teams we’ve never beaten. For the first time in school history, we beat St. Thomas More and LaGrange.

Vermilion Parish Baseball/Softball Roundup

The Abbeville Wildcats have won two straight games after scoring a combined 46 runs.
Last week, the Wildcats (2-3) beat Opelousas 26-25 and Glenco Charter, 20-6.
Abbeville’s Greg Meaux, Nathan Daniels, and Roland Levine III combined for five of the team’s 10 hits in the victory against Glenco. They scored five runs and drove in six.
