Rayne Man Killed in Acadia Parish Crash

BRANCH – Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on June 5, 2018, Troop I was notified of a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 35 north of LA 365 near Branch. The crash claimed the life of 54-year-old Joseph Goodwin of Rayne.
The preliminary investigation revealed Goodwin was traveling south on LA 35 in a 2014 Dodge Ram truck. For unknown reasons, Goodwin’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, and was struck by a tractor-trailer operated by 43-year-old Dustin Matte of Church Point.

21-year-old succumbs to injuries weeks after accident

GUEYDAN - A second victim has died as the result of a recent single-vehicle crash near Mermentau in Acadia Parish.
Cade Sonnier, 21, of Gueydan, succumbed to his injuries on Friday, June 1.
Sonnier was one of seven passengers in the 2009 Ford F-250 that crashed at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, on Louisiana Highway 92 south of U.S. 90.
Kriss Stoute, 32, of Morse, was pronounced dead at the scene of that crash. S toute was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers say.

Vermilion Parish School board building now: ‘Charles Campbell Curriculum Annex’

Vermilion Parish residents may notice a difference while visiting the school board. Wednesday evening, the school board held a reception dedicating and re-naming the Vermilion Parish School Board Curriculum Annex Building.
The buildings’ new name is the Charles Campbell Annex Building, dedicated to the late Charles Campbell who was a long time school board member. He passed away while in office.
Campbell’s entire career was dedicated to education, part of his career being at UL, but mostly at the VPSB.
