If you are a festival goer, you will notice that the Cattle Festival set up will not happen in downtown Abbeville any longer.
The Louisiana Cattle Festival Board shared on their Facebook page Monday that the board unanimously decided to relocate the 2018 festival.

Vermilion Parish School Board members file lawsuit

Four Vermilion Parish School Board members are suing the board president Stacy Landry and Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
During the Vermilion Parish School Board meetings, many topics are on the agenda due to previous meetings where board members put in a motion or substitute motion for topics to be discussed at a further meeting.
Sara Duplechain, Laura LeBeouf, Dr. David Dupuis, and Kibbie Pillette argue that this is not the case for them. Several times, they have been left pacified, left out, or forced to reconsider in which led these board members to seek civil suit.

Gulf Coast Bank, local Marine Corps League partner to provide SLCC Scholarship to deserving Vermilion Parish Student

One full-time, high-achieving high school graduate from Vermilion Parish will get help with college costs thanks to the Lt. Dronet Detachment Marine Corps League and Gulf Coast Bank Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 with installments of $500 per semester to a student attending South Louisiana Community College’s Gulf Area Campus.

Nguyen wins ‘What I want to be and why’ essay contest

The American Legion held a meeting to honor the winner of the ‘What I Want to Be and Why’ essay competition. This year’s award went to Henry Nguyen, a student from Vermilion Catholic.
Presenting the award is Thomas Thompson, President of the American Legion Post 29; along with Garolyn Landry and principal of VC, Michael Guilbeaux.
The award was a beautiful plaque and a $1,000 scholarship check.

Three St. Martinville residents killed in head-on collision

ST. MARTIN PARISH – Shortly before 6:30 am on May 18, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 96 near Capritto 40 Arpent Road in St. Martin Parish.
The crash claimed the lives of 18-year-old Kenneth J. Eaglin II, 18-year-old Dajanee Oliver, and, 37- year-old Latricia L. Savoy, all of St. Martinville.
