Rural bars may be next to be banned from smoking

It was only a matter of time until the Vermilion Parish Police Jury began looking at creating the same no smoking in bars ordinance that the city of Abbeville recently adopted.
At Wednesday night’s police jury committee meeting, police jury administrator Keith Roy introduced the idea at the committee meeting.
Roy informed the jurors that he is bringing up the idea of not allowing rural bars to allow smoking because police juror Wayne Touchet approached him about the idea.
Touchet was not able to attend the meeting because he was out of town.

SOS race shaping up, another candidate announces

Like he did during last year’s special election for state treasurer, U.S. Sen. John Kennedy is picking sides again in the special election for secretary of state — by endorsing no one in particular and critiquing one person specifically.
At the same time, the developing race has picked up its second announced contender, Attorney General Public Protection Director Reneé Free, who confirmed her candidacy recently to LaPolitics.

When a strong south wind blows the parking lot at the park looks like a lake.

Finally - solution to stop flooding baseball fields in Delcambre

DELCAMBRE - When there is a strong south wind, it is almost a guarantee that Remy Landry Park in Delcambre is going underwater. Delcambre Mayor Pam Blakely wants to change that and she has a simple solution that is already in the works.
Her solution is build a four-foot high dirt levee around the entire park to protect it from water surge from the Delcambre canal. For years, when a strong south wind blows coupled with a high tide, the water from the canal overflows its banks onto the grounds of the park.
