Zeb Green gets introduced to the student body at Calvary University at a recent basketball game.

Major accomplishment: Former Lighthouse basketball player scores his 1,000th point at Calvary

Zeb Green, a former Lighthouse Christian Prepartory School of Abbeville basketball player, is having a great college career.
Green recently scored his 1,000th point for the Calvary Warriors basketball team, a Division II team.
Calvary is located in Kanas City, Missouri and sports a 4-4 overall record.
Green is now finishing his senior year at Calvary with one of the best seasons he has ever had. He is currently averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds a game. He has added 14 steals and 19 blocks to his career stats as well.
In a recent win this week, Green scored 10 points and pulled down an impressive 15 rebounds.
Green has already been presented First Team All-Classic at an NAIA tournament held at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas.
During Zeb’s sophomore year he took a hit as he tore his ACL during a game on Nov. 6, 2017. This was one of the hardest trials he had experienced. This ACL injury took a substantial toll on both his physical and mental health. It was during this time that Green held onto the promises of God. He lived by one of his life verses, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
This was proven to be true during his road to recovery.
Green had surgery on his ACL in March of 2018. Immediately after surgery, Green began the healing process at SERC Physical Therapy in Belton, Missouri. With the help of many therapists, whom Green still keeps in contact with, he was improving faster than expected.
Green stayed in Kansas City during the summer of 2018 to continue physical therapy. It was also during this time that he was employed with a bus company in Belton working hard, physical labor. Between his physical therapy, job, diet, and daily workouts, Green lost about 60 pounds that summer.
By the beginning of his junior year, Green was already back on the court. Despite the resistance from wearing an ACL brace, and occasional pain, Green had a phenomenal season. He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds a game. Green was awarded First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region.
Many people have supported Green up until this moment. He is thankful for his parents, Linda and Randy Green. He is thankful for his brothers, sister, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, and the rest of his incredible family. He is thankful for his girlfriend. He is thankful for his coaches and teammates, both in high school and college. He is thankful for everyone he has met along the way who came to any game to support him. But most of all, Green is thankful for God, who gave him his talent.
As Green finishes his senior year of college basketball and graduates from Calvary University in May of 2020, Green only has one plan set before him: “To go wherever God takes him.

Erath schools, church cleared of bomb

Erath police chief hoping to locate person who left the note by the end of the day

Update: As of 11:35 a.m. the schools and church have been cleared and the students are back in school in Erath.
Erath Police Chief Anna LaPointe will begin looking at video from the school bus where the note was found. She said she is hoping to locate who left the note by the end of the day on Wednesday.

ERATH — For the second time in less than a week, three schools in Erath had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat note found on a school bus in Erath.
At 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, school officials received the alert about the bomb threat note found another school bus that dropped off students at Dozier Elementary, Erath Middle and Erath High School.
The students and teachers returned to school by 11:30 that morning after everything was cleared.
Because it was not known at which school the note was left, all three had to be evacuated and searched for a bomb. Also, there was something different about the note found on Wednesday. It said there was a bomb located at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, which is located across the street from the high school and middle school. The church was evacuated and searched.
The students at the schools were taken to “Safe Points” locations throughout Erath.
On Monday, Erath Police Chief Anna LaPointe watched the video from the school bus where the first note was located last week. The video on the bus allegedly shows a third-grader from Dozier Elementary placing the alleged note on the floor of the bus. No criminal charges were filed against the student because the student was under the age of 10.
LaPointe was expected to watch the video from the school bus, where the second note was located.

Cheryl Agnes “Kitty” LeBlanc

January 8, 1947 – February 3, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that Cheryl Agnes “Kitty” LeBlanc, 73, passed away on Monday morning, February 3, 2020, at Lafayette General Hospital. In keeping with her wishes, she will simply have a private graveside service officiated by Fr. Andre Metrejean.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Kitty lived most of her life in the Gross Isle area near Abbeville. She was a devoted wife, mother, and aunt who enjoyed cooking and spending time with (and helping) family and friends. She also looked forward to monthly lunch dates with her classmates. A talented and experienced seamstress, she sewed in different capacities in the retail industry and, in recent years, ran her own alteration service. Always interested in promoting the city of Erath, she used her creative skills and talents to complete several “town” projects. She designed a flag for the Town of Erath and personally sewed it over a period of many years before it was officially dedicated in 1996. She also designed the original sign that hung over the Acadian Museum. While her 1999 Centennial Celebration mural depicting a 33 cents United States Postal Stamp is still displayed at Erath City Hall, her painted mural of the old Erath water tower (and the list of names honoring the hurricane victims who died when the tower collapsed in Hurricane Hilda) was displayed along with other local artists’ murals for many years on another downtown building before the building was sold and refurbished. A poem that Kitty wrote about Erath was once featured on t-shirts and postcards that were distributed through her place of business at the time. She was a member of the Erath 4th of July Association. Kitty also worked with Abbeville’s Giant Omelette Celebration by making the Chevaliers’ hats for many years.
Kitty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jude Leotard LeBlanc, and three sons: Quince LeBlanc of New Iberia; Chris LeBlanc of Abbeville; and Nathan LeBlanc and his wife, Shana, of Abbeville; as well as three grandchildren, Brittney Howell and her husband, Richard; Griffin LeBlanc, and Pierce LeBlanc, and two great grandchildren, Sawyer Howell and Madelyn Howell. She is also survived by her brother, Adam M. Toups and his wife, Frances; a sister-in-law, Kathy Toups; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Adam and Myrtice Toups; a brother, Davie Toups; and a sister, Phyllis Toups.
