Abbeville's Southern Oaks Golf Championship needed a playoff hole to find winner

The 2024 Southern Oaks Club Champion came down to the 2022 Southern Oaks Club Champion and the 2023 Southern Oaks Club Champion battling it out on a playoff hole.
The 2022 club champion, Ryan David, made a birdie on No. 18 to tie John Tommasini, the 2023 club champion, and force an extra hole.
The first playoff hole was No. 1, a short par 4 that could be reached with the driver.
Tommasini teed off first and used his 7-iron  to stay in the middle of the fairway. The ball landed 123 yards from the hole.

Abbeville High hires new volleyball coach

Abbeville High School hired Madison Trahan as its new volleyball coach this summer.
  On Tuesday, Trahan met with her players and their parents to introduce herself and communicate her expectations for the upcoming season.
She is Abbeville High’s third head volleyball coach since the program started back up in the last 10 years.

Two former Cajun golfers win tourney in Abbeville

Two former UL-Lafayette golfers teamed up to tear up the Southern Oaks Country Club course this past weekend.
Matt Weber and Jake Marler shot a two-day score of 113 to win the championship flight of the two-man scramble. They beat out 11 other two-man teams in the championship flight. 
Weber, from St. Thomas More High, played at UL and then recently transferred to the University of New Orleans, while Marler just finished four years of playing golf for the Cajuns.

13-year old tearing up AAU summer track program

Kelsey Faith Bomersbach, a 13-year-old who stands at a height of 5 feet 3 inches, is incredibly talented when it comes to running the 100-meter hurdles. She performs with such skill and precision that it’s as if she’s a seasoned professional.
She is about to enter eighth grade at Vermilion Catholic and is currently participating in the AAU Jr. Olympic track circuit in Louisiana and Texas. Kelsey is gaining recognition for her winning performances and friendly demeanor.

29ers’ Finley signs with Southeast Arkansas College

Eli Finley, a pitcher for the Gulf Coast Bank 29ers, signed to play baseball for the Southeast Arkansas College Sharks on Tuesday.
Finley is a 2024 graduate of Loreauville High School. In American League action this year, he’s pitched a team-high 15.0 innings. The righthander is 2-0 with a 4.67 ERA and leads the team with 22 strikeouts. He’s also batting .320 with five RBI.
Southeast Arkansas College is located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Sharks completed their first National Junior College Athletic Association season in 2024.
