Six Vermilion Parish teams make baseball playoffs

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its baseball playoff brackets and the parish has six teams that made it.
Making the playoffs are North Vermilion, Kaplan, Erath, Delcambre, VC and Gueydan.
The North Vermilion Patriots (32-2), the defending Class 4A state champions, are the No. 1 seed and play today against No. 32 Westgate (7-18) in the first round. The first pitch is at 6 p.m. at North Vermilion High.
Last year the Patriots were the No. 3 seed and went on to win the state title.

Lady Pirates win playoff game in dramatic fashion

KAPLAN - The Kaplan Lady Pirates had to do something they do not usually do - play small ball in order to win 4-2 in the second-round Class 3A playoffs.
Kaplan will be back in action Saturday at home against No. 6 Sterlington. The game time is 4 p.m.
With the wind blowing in, the Lady Pirates went nine innings and only produced one run against the Jena Giants, the defending Class 3A state champs.
Going into the bottom of the 10th inning, down 2-1, the Lady Pirates needed more than one run.

Five softball teams make the playoffs

The Kaplan Lady Pirates, coming off of a 2021 season where they were the second seed in the playoffs, followed that with what should be the third seed when the LHSAA announced the Class 3A playoff pairings Thursday.
Kaplan (25-4 overall) held the number two seed for most of the second half of the season but dropped to the third seed in the final week and will play host to No. 30 seed Ville Platte High (6-11) in the opening round. It will be played Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Boudreaux scores 32.5 out of Erath’s 106 points at Cashen

DELCAMBRE - Erath junior Dax Boudreaux may pull off something very few athletes have done in high school sports - run the table, literally.
Boudreaux, who has yet to lose at 1,600 meters this track season, added another win Friday night when he claimed the win in his signature event at the Cashen Relays.
Boudreaux won the 1600 race in five minutes and three seconds. He followed that victory with a win in the 800 and 3200-meter races. Plus, he ran a leg in the winning 4x800 meter relay race (9:08) with Lawson Boudreaux, Braxton Bright, and Cameron Soirez.
